A hard reset on a Blackberry is done by pulling out the battery while the device is powered ON. After about 30 seconds, put the battery back in and the device will power up. The hard reset does not affect any data - email, pictures, music, etc.
This is typically done when the device isn’t operating properly - emails not being received, camera not working right, or memory problems like email disappearing.
It is a good idea to make a backup on a regular basis - just in case the Blackberry stops working. Backup are done using the Blackberry Desktop Manager software.
